Job Summary

Reporting to the Corporate Vice President of Strategic Alliances, the Corporate Strategic Partnership Director will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and helping to design, negotiate and implement partnerships that further the company s strategic objectives. Further, they will be accountable for creating a systematic and scalable approach including qualitative and quantitative metrics to be applied in both the pre- and post-deal phases to assess the relative success and impact of each.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain deep understanding of industry trends, corporate strategy, competitive landscape, corporate positioning and existing portfolio gaps relative to current strategic imperatives to identify and make recommendations vis- -vis potential partnership opportunities.
Participate in key industry events and foster productive working relationships with corporate, scientific operations and commercial team leadership to aid in scouting and identifying potential partners.
Build and maintain a pipeline of potential partnership opportunities, which may originate with existing clients or new entities, and establish a metrics-based system for conducting due diligence encompassing cultural, technical/scientific and financial fit-for-purpose to enable comparisons and inform rank order prioritization. Advance pipeline with input from colleagues in corporate development and internal stakeholders (scientific and commercial operations).
Engage directly with potential partnership companies. Develop materials that introduce the strategic partnership concept to potential companies, and ensure presentations are tailored to the nature of the technology and the stage of the discussion.
Work closely with the scientific operations, finance and market research teams to design and apply comprehensive models to support due diligence efforts at different stages of the partnering process as well as models to gauge impact and outcomes of existing partnerships at various stages in their maturity.
Work closely with the corporate legal team to design comprehensive and compliant agreement templates to enable a streamlined negotiate process; work with each partner to establish mutually acceptable success metrics and represent Charles River in negotiations with partner as agreements are refined prior to execution. Maintain records in accordance with corporate policy and support resolution of disputes.
Regularly communicate status of existing strategic partnerships in the portfolio to internal and external stakeholders; using agreed upon metrics, periodically survey the entire portfolio to report learnings from the relative health and impact of each partnership. Regularly communicate the status of the strategic partnership pipeline to internal stakeholders for continually assessing the pace and fit of potential partnerships as they move through the pipeline.
Liaise with internal scientific and commercial operations teams to lay the groundwork associated with new partnerships as the deal matures; create the frameworks necessary to execute the partnership and measure outcomes. Act as the internal champion, subject matter expert and partner advocate in the nascent stages of the execution; train additional internal champions, SMEs and partner advocates within the appropriate scientific and commercial teams.
Monitor partnerships as they mature, and facilitate hand-off to business leads to manage long term partnerships; when appropriate, act as a liaison between the partner and corporate development team to facilitate M&A; when necessary, manage dissolution process
Work with senior management to refine the goals of the strategic partnership program to remain aligned with corporate strategic imperatives

Job Qualifications

BSc. in Life Sciences with 7
years experience in a drug discovery environment (research, supporting products or services), PhD or MBA desirable.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Experience with advanced cell and gene therapy industry preferred
